CONSULTANT TRAINING MATERIALS - 2025

AND WE'RE BACK!.......

We created these while we were Area Advisers for the Church for 7 years.  Even though we have been released, our Area Seventy asked us to keep helping people if they contact us or need additional training from what they have found on Family Search.  We read the Handbook regularly to make sure they parallel thinking and are just more visual versions of what the Handbook says.

We were not paid or conscripted to do these decks.  We do so because if someone needs help, what would Jesus do?  That's right.  He would help them learn.

USING THIS STAKE/WARD PLAN

I CAN TESTIFY THAT HELPING OTHERS GET THEIR NAMES PRIOR TO BAPTISM, INCREASES THE RETENTION AND INCREASES FRIENDSHIP PATTERNS IN THE WARD.  WARD MEMBERS ARE MORE LIKELY TO WORK TOGETHER THAN WORK ON THEIR OWN WITH UNGUIDED SUPPORT FROM LEADERS.  THIS IS THE MOST POSITIVE EFFECT

YOU CAN HAVE ON YOUR WARD OR STAKE

GETTING READY FOR 2025 - WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE?

TED AND KAREN MEYER FORMER AREA ADVISERS

No doubt 2025 is going to be upon us very quickly.  It seems that the days in a year get shorter and shorter doesn't it?  Wasn't just Christmas yesterday?  What happened to our grandchildren?  They are graduating from High School soon.  Wasn't I just rocking that one to sleep?  What have we taught our families about their ancestors?  Now that's an important question.  It won't be long, before WE are the ancestors so get crackin'!

The more we help others, the more exciting the work becomes.  Yes, we still help our ward and we are also Stake Consultants.  Of course, we miss the Area calling.  We have met so many wonderful people all over the world and you are all dear to our hearts.  We are excited to tell you that we have perfected the  WARD ANNUAL FAMILY HISTORY PLANNER FOR 2025.

THE 2024 ANNUAL WARD F H PLANNER

Here are some of the Exciting changes:

On the TEMPLATE tab - you can Change the Ward Name, the Temple and Family HIstory Leader Name, end of Quarter Dates, all the 5th Sundays, etc  You only have to put them in ONCE!

The rest of the workbook will autopopulate those dates for you.

MISSIONARY ACTIVITIES - For each Family History Event that the Relief Society, Elders Quorum, Young Womens, Young Men's or Primary planned, it will ask if the community has been invited.  At the end of the year it will total all auxilliary events which lent a hand towards missionary work.  How exciting would it be to tell the Stake President that your ward had 11 Missionary Events last year?

TEMPLE AND FAMILY HISTORY LEADER AND WARD MISSION LEADER

In the 2025 version, several emails have been sent to us from various places in the USA as well as Australia, New Zealand and Canada about this topic being added to the sheet.  We know you have heard the Prophet say these words:

VIDEO HERE

"Temple work and Missionary Work are One work!"  PRESIDENT AND SISTER NELSON DISCUSS THE MAJOR THAT FAMILY HISTORY CAN PLAY IN MISSIONARY WORK

ARTICLE HERE:

HERE'S A GREAT ARTICLE ABOUT JUST THIS SUBJECT:  "HOW TEMPLE AND FAMILY HISTORY WORK IS USED TO MINISTER TO ALL, WITH EMPHASIS ON NEW AND TENDER MEMBERS

When we were first Area Advisers in 2016 our leaders at Family Search would give us messages from the First Presidency to give to our Stake Presidents who would take the messages to their Counselor over Family History and the Stake High Councilor who would instruct the Wards.  At every meeting they would stress to us, "The Presidency wants all converts to go to the Temple within 60 days with their own names from the day they are baptized."

It wasn't in writing, just a message we were supposed to tell them.  We got a lot of pushback saying, "Show it to me in writing."   Well, if you were at the Leadership Meeting in 2020 at Rootstech, you could have seen us almost jump out of our chairs with delight when Elder Bednar said, "All converts should go to the Temple within 60 days from the day they are baptiszd with their own names"

Immediately upon return, we started going through the handbook and could see the correlation between these things:

  • Instruct ward temple and family history consultants. Coordinate their efforts to help members find names of ancestors and perform temple ordinances on their behalf.

  • Work with the ward mission leader and the missionaries to help those learning the gospel, new members, and returning members engage in temple and family history work (see 23.2 and 23.3).

  • icon, guidelines for adaptation Where applicable, assign ward temple and family history consultants to serve in the FamilySearch center (see 25.3.6).

The Ward Mission Leader works with the Mission President and Full Time missionaries.  He knows who is being taught, he knows when they are going to be baptized.

The Ward Mission Leader and the Temple and Family History Leader are supposed to be invited to the Ward Coordination meetings.  Imagine what they might have to say?

The Temple and Family History Leader assigns a Consultant to do the following:

1.   Work with the person being taught to create their own family tree.  They can do this in their own Ancestry (partner access) account and export it later when they help a new member open his Family Search Tree and import the data.

2.  They can link their findings to Family Search so, when the New Member starts to enter, they will start populating the tree right away.

3.  They can print down the pedigree and interesting stories to give to him or her at her baptism

4.  The Consultant can help get the appointment arranged with the Bishop for a Single Use Recommend each month.

5.  The Consultant can, once the person becomes a member, give them the gift of Partner Access, (Ancestry, Find My Past, My Heritage, Geneanet, Filea, and American Ancestor)

6.  The Consultant can teach them how to reserve and print down names.

7.  The Consultant and Ministering Brother and Sister continue to friendship and introduce the member to other Ward Activities.

Your Ward Missionaries and Full Time Missionaries will love you....

This is the biggest gift you can give to your missionaries.  All they want to do is baptize them and make sure that they are handled tenderly and lovingly.  If these things do not occur, imagine how they feel when they find out the person went inactive.

You can make a difference!  We had two situations this month where we found out that a brother got baptized AFTER it occurred.  We would have loved to go to his Baptism and give him his names.  I got in touch with him, we worked together and within 2 days we had over 300 names.  He reported back on the 4th day that he had made it to Charlemagne!  We are going to go to the Temple with him with 60 days with his own family names.

During Sacrament a recent Sunday I found out that there was a baptism coming up.  No one knew the exact name or date but I kept asking until I had what we needed.  It was an unusual situation.  He was adopted and only knew his birth mother's name.  He had information on the wonderful people who raised him, but Ted and I dove right in and worked on the impossible.  Not only did Heavenly Father and this young man's Angels help us, but we have 200 records to hand to him along with a picture of his Grandfather and many other amazing stories about his Ancestors who were Knights or US Senators all the way back to 1565.  He was blown away.  He is so excited to get baptized and is ready to go to the Temple within 60 days with his own names.

YOUR CONSULTANTS ...

ARE THE KEY  TO LONGEVITY IN THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST..

4.  The  Society President's Counselor can assign a Ministering Sister to the convert to help in the tree.  The consultant can teach them both about family history.

5.  The Elder's Quorum President's Counselor can do the same for a brother.

They can keep themselves worthy to go to the Temple with the new person EVERY  MONTH FOR ONE YEAR.

6.  They can be their first friend in the Ward (President Gordon B. Hinckley) and ensure life long membership, keeping them busy enough to stay active all year.

We will be releasing the 2025 ANNUAL FAMILY HISTORY PLANNER next Month, but we want you to finish up the year with an amended 2024 ANNUAL FAMILY HISTORY PLANNER

We also encourage the Temple and Family History Leaders to help keep everyone on the same page by using THE ANY AUX - HELPING PEOPLE TO GO TO THE TEMPLE

2025 ANY AUX HELPING OTHERS GO TO THE TEMPLE 9-2-24 KM.xlsm

What about those Primary Kids entering YW/YM in January of the year they turn 12....who helps them?

It used to be that the Primary Counselor would help the kids learn about Family HIstory, how to research, how to document, how to reserve and print, but now the Handbook states that it is the Parent's Responsibility to make sure they are prepared.  The Primary could certainly have a kick off event for them and their parents and give them some tools for success.  If you would like to do this, we have tools to help them.   Email us and we will send you some tools:  naswfamilyhistory@gmail.com or meyerandmeyerconsulting@gmail.com

Balkham Discovery Day in Australia

Have you saved the date? Save April 27, 2024 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm

This past year, we had a lot going on.  We were released as Area Advisers after seven years and gladly would have done it 10 more.  Karen survived 6 surgeries on her hip, I survived two cruises with her :) - one to Alaska and the other to the Caribbean.  It was difficult with her walker, but she was a trooper.  A surgeon sewed her leg on crooked, gave her a spiral fracture of the femur, repaired it and sewed it on crooked again. She was in a wheel chair for 5 months, one used too much cement fixing the ensuing spiral fracture of her femur and it wouldn’t heal, then a physical therapist lifted her leg to high and broke off her greater trochanter.  She had six transfusions, a couple of quick visits to the hereafter for more instruction and through all of this adversity, she actually kept smiling and knowing Heavenly Father would heal her. Thank heavens she is still with us.  While on one cruise, we got word that we lost her 99 year old mother after a long battle with macular degeneration.  We were going to leave the cruise early but her brother told us to stay.  When we did finally leave, we got home and thought we should take a Covid test.  It was not the  best week of our lives but Heavenly Father healed us and we started working on our Stake Family History and Genealogy Fair.

We were wrong!

We’re excited to be a part of another Family History Fair for you and your friends to learn more about your ancestors. If you happen to be near Scottsdale, AZ this weekend, April 27, 2024 we would love to see you at our free community event.

We recently told you that Genealogy was the third most popular hobby in the world. We were wrong. Actually, it’s more exciting than that!

Did you know that Genealogy is the second most popular hobby in the world?  Familysearch.org will give a free access to build a  as it has 13.9 million users, there’s always room for a few more!   They get 7 million page views daily.

This ticket can be given via text and email and a whole family can gain entry to a new world of discovery.

Help them by sending them a VIP ticket and they can show their phone at the door.

At Grandma’s Cookies table we will be collecting names and emails to send out an ebook of recipes. Ward members please bring a plate of cookies of a favorite family recipe (Bring on a card or paper). If you want to include a cute quote or anecdote from that person it will be in the book as well. Bring cookies, bring or  email the recipe to the event and we will create an extraordinarily creative cookie-cookbook !

It has been exciting to touch so many lives with these fairs. The Mission Presidents love it and we give the Missionaries 200 VIP FREE tickets to give out. We also encourage them to bring people being taught to the Stake Center during the week so that we can help them find names.

It is true - what Elder David A. Bednar asked us to do in 2020 we have been encouraging others to do the same. He said “Every new member should be prepared to go to the Temple within 60 days of baptism with their own names.” We have truly seen miracles happen when they are prepared. They stay active for a whole year going to the Temple with the names we found before baptism. The consultant becomes their best friend in the ward and goes with them. If you would like to know more, please email us and ask about the Sample Stake Family History Plan we did.

How to put on the perfect Family History Fair!

Getting ready to put on a Family HIstory Fair?
Here are some ideas for success!
Make sure you stop the video on each slide so you can read each one and take notes.

I didn't have time to do a voice over!

I'll add more later~

In our Family History Fairs, we always added something amazing which not too many people know about. What if you could open your Family Search Tree in an app that revealed to you all of the stories and memories ever written about your family members, coordinating all with others who have joined your tree? Well, that gift was momentarily taken off the web until we complained and showed them how it could be a valuable family history asset for members as well as non-members to plant seeds of bonding with their ancestors. Now, it's back:!!!!!!
Go to this app - It will ask you to enter your FS login/password. Now Watch with amazement as the blue dots form in your tree fan. It literally turns your tree upside down and shakes out all the stories (no, not the nuts). The stories appear on the sides. Click a dot or click a story. Now here's the magic. http://stories.familyfoundapp.com
Download the stories to a Word document. Go to kdp.amazon.com and pick out a template for a small book - probably 5.06x7.81 or 6/9. Import your stories to the template - add a table of contents and page numbers. In your bibliography, make sure you note the author of the story. Print down these real paperback books from Amazon for "author's price" of 2-3.00 or Tell your Amazon Author page to your family and let them order themselves. This would be a great christmas present.

I was just reading a question on the Temple and Family History Consultants site asking about favorite maps used in family history research. More importantly, think outside the box. If you can’t find any info on your person it may be that it doesn’t exist in that point In TIME. If grandma documented the child was born in a certain state, the records won’t be in that state if it hadn’t been admitted to the union before that date.
Try this:
Look at the other parents, married city/county,older kids birth places and make a list: name, dob, city, county, state
2. Check the date of each state when it became a state at our link below:
3. Where is the most logical place for birth record?
4. Look at adjacent states and check dates. Jot them down on your grid
5. Look at county lines for shifting lines w dates
You may find that your family member was born in the state next door!
Look with an open mind. Relatives offering dates with out documents aee so well meaning but you and I know how to 🕵🏼‍♀️ sleuth out the truth.
Ted and Karen Meyer,
Camelback Stake TFHConsultants

Let's get your ward numbers up!
Things to Ponder: On your family history reports, here is what to look for:
Low youth numbers: most of the time the reason why the youth numbers are so low is because they don't want to re-create the wheel. They think that they have to start from scratch so they don't even want to start their own tree. What you need to do is show them that once they start their tree when they get to the first person who passed way, then all of a sudden their tree will expand exponentially and then they won't have the feeling like they're starting over from scratch. If they use their parents login, your numbers will never go up.
Converts: If you see low numbers, you should've been working with your mission leader, and TFHleader, to assign consultants to that person being taught to get them to the temple within 60 days with their own names after baptism. if you find enough names while they're being taught, then they will have enough to last them an entire year of keeping active if you don't and depend on the Ward to fellowship them, you're gonna lose them. Your Consultant is your best bet to keep them active. The Temple and Family History leader assigns them to go to the stake center and learn more so now your convert has two people, the stake consultant and their ward consultant that they can go to the temple with the convert.

If you need a 60 -day tracker, ask me for one I have a great one.
David A Bednar told us at the 2020 Roots Tech that the First Presidency wants all converts to go to the Temple within the first 60 days after baptism with their own names.
3. # of people who printed at least one name per year. If a wife has added her husband's name to her tree with his family, so she can print down the names for the family then the husband will never be counted as someone who printed at least one name per year

4. Young Single Adults - These numbers are usually low because they are so transitory. Many move at the end of each quarter either back to home or to a new location and ward. So if your card is only counted one time....it's not going to get counted again in the next ward.
