How to teach 11-12 year olds
how to do Family history...
Family History is the third most popular hobby on the planet. The first is video games. How to we shift the paradigm from one to another? This article will address points that may help your child to avoid some temptations of the Adversary. If kids use their time wisely, they can avoid, temptations from friends, sex, drugs, alcohol. Immersing themselves into Family History becomes a useful and creative outlet for a chance for a successful adult life.
We have been promised
- Elder Dale G. Renlund: “I extend the promise of protection that’s been offered in the past. . . . I promise you protection for you and your family as you take this challenge to find as many names to take to the temple as ordinances you perform in the temple, and teach others to do the same. . . . If you accept this challenge, blessings will begin to flow to you and your family. . . . You’ll find not only protection from the temptations and ills of this world, but you’ll also find personal power, power to change, power to repent, power to learn, power to be sanctified, and power to turn the hearts of your family together and heal that which needs healing.”
- Elder Richard G. Scott: “Do you young people want a sure way to eliminate the influence of the adversary in your life? Immerse yourself in searching for your ancestors, prepare their names for the sacred vicarious ordinances available in the temple, and then go to the temple to stand as proxy for them.”
- Elder Quentin L. Cook: “If the youth in each ward will not only go to the temple and do baptisms for their dead but also work with their families and other ward members to provide the family names for the ordinance work they perform, both they and the Church will be greatly blessed.”
- Elder Russell M. Nelson: “Consider the spiritual connections that are formed when a young woman helps her grandmother enter family information into a computer. . . . When our hearts turn to our ancestors, something changes inside us. We feel part of something greater than ourselves.”
- Elder David A. Bednar: “I encourage you to study, to search out your ancestors, and to prepare yourselves to perform proxy baptisms in the house of the Lord for your kindred dead. . . .
“As you respond in faith to this invitation, your hearts shall turn to the fathers. . . . And I promise you will be protected against the intensifying influence of the adversary. As you participate in and love this holy work, you will be safeguarded in your youth and throughout your lives.”
If you are in a Primary Presidency, Beehive Advisor, or Deacon Advisor, or teachers over each class, this next video will help you. This trains the trainer on how to get kids interest using tools that they can relate to:
When you show this video to kids, they will learn about the apps that will help them graduate to the Consultant Planner.
We can help you if you are in the Scottsdale Coordinating Council, by visiting your meeting of the Leadership and providing training to help your children.
Imagine youself watching a worthy young person go off on a mission, one comes home, falls in love and is sealed for Time and All Eternity.
Now imagine yourself changing a baby's diaper. You did plenty of these in your life, but now it's your grandchild. The mother is trying to get off drugs and alcohol and lives with you so you can help with the child.
What if they played clean video games like Geneapardy, Compare-a-Face, and Kinpoint which teaches them a little bit on how to use a fan chart.
I made my LDS novels free or .99 (ebooks) on Amazon for this purpose. To me, it's important that they have free, clean books to read and games to play.

When you train someone, sometimes they are overwhelmed and won't feel like they can remember or do a 1 on 1 visit with a ward member without a big manual. I have attached our CHEAT SHEET, which till help clarify and teach you the things we need to teach the kids
