HERE IS THE INFO FROM OUR ZOOM FOR 1-9-21 - !

Zoom Meeting for Family History

It was wonderful going through the new handbook and listening to your challenges and ideas for your Stakes and Wards.  The beauty of our faith allows the Priesthood Keyholders, Stake Presidents the opportunity to use their personal revelation to know what is best for their Stake, yet using the Handbook2 as a guide.

Our tools in this pdf. of the Handbook2 Presentation are just that.  These are tools that have worked for other Stakes and Wards and are being used to increase activity.  The brethren are not interested in increasing "numbers", "quotas", or watchdogging who goes to do Family History Work and when, because they know that increased activity will also benefit each family in countless ways.

Our recent newsletter shows President Nelson's list of how to grow closer as a family using family history and we hope you will read the corresponding article on Family Search.  It will bless your life.  In his address in October 2020, from the General Conference were these words:

"President Nelson made his remarks in the context of the gathering of Israel, which he called “the most important work in the world.” He said the Church of Jesus Christ is latter-day covenant Israel.

He defined the gathering of Israel as drawing all people to Christ through missionary, temple and family history work, as well as helping others build faith and testimony.

He was stirred recently, he said, to learn that one of the meanings of Israel in Hebrew is “let God prevail.”"

Our zoom was a lot of fun but it was interrupted by a total blackout right in the middle! so there is a link to video PART 1  and then come back and click on PART 2

Thank you to all who came and shared your experiences!

THIS PRESENTATION WILL SHOW YOU ALL THE HANDBOOK WITH PICTURES.

WE HAVE ADDED LINKS TO OUR TOOLS SHOULD YOU WANT TO TRY THEM.
WE HOPE THEY WILL BE A BLESSING IN YOUR LIFE AS OTHERS HAVE TOLD US THEY HAVE BEEN TO THEM.

HOW TO ENTER NAMES CORRECTLY INTO THE FAMILY SEARCH DATABASE.

Good to know!
If you find a file with this information, Words to avoid.   Keep in mind that the list below is not exhaustive, but it includes the terms that most commonly cause users problems. If one of the words in the list happens to be the first or last name of one of your ancestors, please contact FamilySearch Support.  SUPPORT@FAMILYSEARCH.ORG

Put each part of the name in the correct field

  • Title. Use this for words like “Count” or “Mister.” If a person does not have a title, simply leave this field blank.
  • First Names. Enter the person's first and middle names. Do not enter nicknames. They go in the “Other Information” section.
  • Last Names. Enter the person’s family name or surname. If a woman changed her surname after marriage, enter her maiden name.
  • Suffix. Enter words like “Jr.” or “Sr.,” or perhaps a Roman numeral, as in “John Smith III.”  If a person does not have a suffix, simply leave this field blank.

Put nicknames and other variations in the Other Information section

Add other other names a person had in the “Other Information” section. These names include the following:
  • Nicknames.
  • Names used before or after moving to a new country.
  • Names used to avoid identification, as in the case of an escaped slave or a person living in hiding.
  • Name changes caused by adoption, divorce, or some other legal actions if they were not the last legal name used by the person.
  • Name variants caused by naming customs, such as French "dit" names.

Avoid invalid words and characters

Avoid the following in name fields:
  • Names with initials only.
  • Special characters, extra spaces, and most punctuation marks. Hyphens and apostrophes are okay if they are a part of the actual name. Generation numbers, such as Steven Smith III, are acceptable in the suffix field.
  • Avoid repeating a special characters, such as two apostrophes in a row.
  • Words that are not really names, such as “not named,” “unnamed,” “Mister,” “Wife,” "twin," or "Son."  SEE ALL WORDS BELOW THAT SHOULD NOT BE USED.
