THE 1950 CENSUS IS OUT!!!
This has been a long month and it is just the 9th of April. The last time we were together for a zoom it was right after my hip replacement. That was fine. I was home recuperating very nicely when 4 days later, I was merely walking across the kitchen floor from one room to another and I "heard" what sounded like breaking a dry piece of wood in half, even the sound of the splinters. It was quite the eerie thing to hear. I looked around, trying to see where it might have come from. The next thing I knew, as I touched, literally touched my toe to the ground was horrific pain and then a lot of screaming. I took one hop and landed at my place at the table. Ted came out, probably expecting to see blood, but quickly assessed that something had happened with my hip. We calmly tried to figure out how I could get to the car so he could take me to the hospital. The thought of compacting into the Pssaat, kept me in an eternally head-shaking motion like a hula doll in the window of a 1950's car (see you wondered how I was going to fit that in, didn't you?) Ted said, "We gotta' make the call - paramedics - 911 - now!" I agreed. I wasn't happy about it though.
1950 - SERVING OTHERS WITH THE 1950 CENSUS
When we got to the hospital I don't remember very much - they must have sedated me. It turned out that I fractured my femur. The hardest bone in the body to break, and I did it. So they kept me down and calm until they could get an OR scheduled. That was a while back I just got out rather recently, now, I am relegated to my recliner for 3-4 months. We've had so many health professionals coming and going, that we should put in a revolving front door. We almost canceled the 1950 presentation today but decided to go ahead and record it for you.
The point is - most of you are going to tell me that you've done all your family history so you didn't really need to come or view it. But consider this fact. Have you recorded your parents or Grandparents telling stories of when they were young parents? You need this for your children and grandchildren. So laced througout this video you'll see things we remembered from those times when we were kids along with the instructions on how to do the new indexing program as well as the direct links to the 1950 census platforms. The whole thing has not been completed, however the powers that be have seen you in action.
In 2016, when we were all indexing trying to get ready for the Washington Smithsonian building for African American memorial, I've never seen the world come together better than when you were all indexing and trying to get 1 million images indexed by the opening of the Exhibit. You were amazing!
Ted and I expect no less - let's show them how fast we can get the entire United States 1950 census indexed and ready to use!
We hope you enjoy it - please drop us a line (naswfamilyhistory@gmail.com). We love talking to you and helping you. I'm going to be fine, but we are at the pain management and "cheer up cupcake!" stage of the injury.
