In this blog, we are answering a request from some of our Stake High Counselors for our training in the form of the BEST PRACTICES FOR CONSULTANTS Index. This way, your consultants can start where they feel comfortable and learn the one on one, Spirit Led, Heart to Heart, Spirit-led experience with a friend or their OWN consultant

Are you doing it?
Are you working with the Primary kids on Family History?
In 2018, President Dallin Oaks and his wife gave a wonderful presentation about the capability of the younger children, in particular, 11-12-year-olds at RootsTech. It was alluded to that this was important and that we needed to do it. However, very few outside of the circle of Utah and other communities who were so inspired followed thru.
These things aren't just revealed and kicked out to the public. A lot of thought goes into how things are revealed to the Lord's People. Sometimes up to a year has gone into the planning before releasing something to us. When it is released, we need to realize that as that was in the pipeline...other revelations are coming right behind it, and President Nelson is not wasting any time with his plans for us or the world.
It comes as no surprise to me that last year, he revealed that the 11-year-olds would be going into Young Women's and Young men's NOT right at 11 when they turn that age during the year, but every child turning 11 in the next year transitions in JANUARY.

At that time, there was no training or curriculum on how to teach that age. So all you great people who listened, had prepared 11-year-olds who knew how to research properly, knew how to use the Consultant Planner to their advantage and also knew how to utilize the Partner Access to increase their success rates for finding family and decrease their research time.
You now have been trying to figure out for the past 11 months, how to train these little people or at least give them a positive taste of what is to come. If you only give them some fun opportunities utilizing family history, you will be doing them a great favor. They do not have to be research scholars in the subject. So how are the rest of you going to do this? You have less that three months left.
Want help?
We have created a fun way to teach this age group about Family HIstory using Family Search apps and BYU lab apps that make it fun for them! We call it Primarily Primary. We have not been paid by the Church or conscripted to do this, but it just makes good sense to follow thru on what was given to us by President Nelson.\
Want More?
If these pictures of our tools and ideas we made to help make your calling easier for you to share the gospel look interesting, please email us and ask for our fun way to get kids excited about family history that we created for our Stakes we represent. If you are a member of one of our Stakes, you know that we are your Area Temple and Family History Consultants. We have not been paid or conscripted to create these, we do it out of love for family history and out of love for the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Our chief job is to advise Stake Presidents with what we have gleaned from meetings in Salt Lake so that the Priesthood Line of authority can disseminate the information down through the ranks.
We help their Stakes and Wards when asked to help train on Family History or even give talks about it. Each Stake President and Bishop is given the power to decide what is best for their people. Our Area has adopted the "One Work" practice of working with family history and missionary work to ensure retention of converts. Our whole training and Mission President support this effort and it is a success here. It is never our intent to try to change the vision or your own leaders. Our Family Search adviser asked me to explain this. We don’t want any complaints against us and are concerned that we might hurt feelings or appear to be encroaching on someone else’s territory. That is not our intent. We will never say no to helping anyone because our first commitment is to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ to anyone in need through the power of Family History.
Thank you so much for visiting our blog which we created for our 7 Stakes to make it easier for their people to learn to feel confident as Consultants. We see that others are learning how consultants can make their job so much easier and effective by analyzing their patron’s tree and if this has been helpful to you, we are glad. If you aren’t in our area, we need to let you know that your first choice for help is:
- your local spiritual Priesthood holder, i.e, Home teacher,
- Temple and Family History Leader, or
- Counselor under the Elders' Quorum President over Family History, or
- Your Bishop.
- Then for additional assistance, please read the "My Callings" pages on Family Search.
- You can also call Family Search Support at 1 866 406 1830 or join the communities.familysearch.org for Ward or Stake Consultants.
If you have tried all other avenues, we are certainly here for you.
