Consultant Best Practices that we have seen!

In this blog, we are answering a request from some of our Stake High Counselors for our training in the form of the BEST PRACTICES FOR CONSULTANTS Index.  This way, your consultants can start where they feel comfortable and learn the one on one, Spirit Led, Heart to Heart, Spirit-led experience with a friend or their OWN consultant

Explanation of Area Advisers

Our chief job is to advise Stake Presidents with what we have gleaned from meetings in Salt Lake so that the Priesthood Line of authority can disseminate the information down through the ranks.   We help their Stakes and Wards when asked to help train on Family History or even give talks about it.  Each Stake President and Bishop is given the power to decide what is best for their people.  Our Area has adopted the "One Work" practice of working with family history and missionary work to ensure retention of converts.  Our whole training and Mission President support this effort and it is a success here.  It is never our intent to try to change the vision or your own leaders.  Our Family Search adviser asked me to explain this.  We don’t want any complaints against us and are concerned that we might hurt feelings or appear to be encroaching on someone else’s territory.  That is not our intent.

Thank you so much for visiting our blog which we created for our 7 Stakes to make it easier for their people to learn to feel confident as Consultants.  We see that others are learning how consultants can make their job so much easier and effective by analyzing their patron’s tree and if this has been helpful to you, we are glad.    If you aren’t in our area, we need to let you know that your first choice for help is:
  1.  your local spiritual Priesthood holder, i.e, Home teacher,
  2.  Temple and Family History Leader, or
  3.  Counselor under the Elders' Quorum President over Family History, or
  4. Your Bishop.
  5. Then for additional assistance, please read the "My Callings" pages on Family Search.
  6.  You can also call Family Search Support at 1 866 406 1830 or join the communities.familysearch.org for Ward or Stake Consultants.

We  always need to follow protocol to get help for you by having your leaders speak with your Area Consultants.   We don’t want to do anything which would appear inappropriate, and it is difficult to discern that we could get into trouble for helping others who are not under the purview of our calling, but our only intent is to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ through the Power of Family History.  If you are confident that no one would be upset by our helping you, as long as you contact us and you have tried all other sources, to no avail, maybe that would be ok because we are all just trying to do good in the world.

Who said Genealogy is just for Old Folks!?

There is this ugly rumor that only old people can do genealogy...

The only part of that which is true is that yes,  once you get past a certain age where you are more comfortable in your reclining chair with your laptop than on a treadmill...you find one amazing thing then another...and it becomes addicting.   It's almost like you've been bitten by this bug that causes you to get excited over the smallest discovery!

We are finding that since the Prophet asked that 10-11-year-olds be trained, they are getting excited over finding their ancestors just like we are.  Who knew?  Genealogy beats out Disney Descendants? Awesome!
Because 11-year-olds go into Young Womens' and Young Mens' organizations at 11 now instead of 12, it's time we found something to show these 10 years olds, so we came up with a game called 20 Ways to Gather Israel.   The pictures are fun to look at and match, they learn which things are about purity, the courage to try to learn, and service to others.

It is absolutely Free - you just have to cut it out and put it together.
Here is the link to the final version - (I know!  I'm sorry!  I sent out a few for you to try but we polished this up a little and made the directions more clear!) So you will need this version:

It's time to peel grandma out of her chair and help her do some research!  Such fun!

LOOKING FOR A FUN FAMILY NIGHT GAME?
"20 Ways to Gather Israel"

A FHC FRIENDLY TOOL - FUN FOR MEMBERS AND NON MEMBERS - EVERYONE CAN LEARN SOMETHING NEW ABOUT FAMILY HISTORY
iT'S NOT JUST FOR OLD FOLKS ANYMORE~

Here are some pictures of us Playing the Game last night!

Until Next month.....keep smiling - keep doing what you do and find someone amazing in the past to get to know!  Find out where you get your artistic talent from!  Where do you get your singing ability from?  Find out about their lives and learn something to enhance yours!
