Zoom meeting on helping Missionaries was great!

No matter what the title is, "Helping Missionaries to onboard a new member to the ward",  "Learning how to effectively work with the Missionaries, thus raising their convert retention numbers", it was apparent that whatever we do to help the Missionaries work in the field be saved, retained, and cherished after dedicating two years of their lives to this "marvelous work and a wonder", is it is greatly appreciated by: missionaries, parents of missionaries, Bishops, Mission Presidents, companions of missionaries affected by depression, new members who need a leg up when reaching out to make friends, and people who love people and enjoy being a part of a ward family!

We got some great questions

1.   Can you open/permit the "Chat" feature.  Not everyone has it.

Yes we will learn how to do it.  It’s very difficult to chat back while presenting. The print was so fine it and it was a little far away from us that we couldn’t see what people are saying without squinting.

2.   Just a reminder if you could number the pages for reference.  Also, if you make changes, annotate a V. 1,       V. 2, etc. and/or change the colors and design so that everyone is aware this an update.

I can do that But sometimes the changes in because of stupidity and that’s all  Like a ridiculously misspelled word.

3.  One slide commented that the Bishop gathered information from the Ward and sent it to the Stake President. Not aware that any of this is being nor why.

Bishops have never had a “ward plan” until 2019. So then how do they communicate that to their stake president so that he can communicate to the area president that all of his Wards are complying and are doing well? They need an annual planner so we created one that makes it real easy for them to find out what each faction of the auxiliaries are doing for a Family History each quarter that’s all they need to do

We received word from a few Presidents that they would like to know how people are coming along with family history in the Ward.  Without a lot of work, you can implement these tools and have really valuable conversations with your leaders that they can report to their Area Presidency.
Instead of replying, "Great, just great!" when your Stake President says, "How is your Ward doing with Family history?" You could now have at your fingertips, "Our consultants made contact with 30 families last month and gave them ideas for family nights, they helped 5 families prepare fan charts for their home, two of our consultants are working with the Elders and people being taught to build a tree and have names even before they are baptized.  We are doing great!"

What a difference you could make!

4.   I am an avid researcher.  Being a convert helps.  The FamilySearch FamilyTree (FSFT) program is growing and becoming very complex.  Unless the user is a very computer-literate (I like to think I am), it is simply too much for anyone over the age of 40 to learn (and that doesn't include the time to learn - just the complexity).  I have simply sat and worked with older members, using the Helper function, and researched and printed out the names for them.  They have time to attend.  I wonder when and if the ability to use the program is going to become universal.  Clearly the complexity to deal with billions of individuals is important for the future; however......
ANSWER:
The consultant planner ceased to be the plan for Consultants to use to analyze peoples trees when somebody realized that ANY member could use the Consultant planner to find opportunities for success for temple ordinances. (I’ll bet they read one of my troubleshooting videos).  Non-members cannot use the consultant planner/helper resource because it shows ordinances and they are not allowed to see those until they become a member. Yes, family search is incredibly complex for for very new members and very young learners. That’s why we suggest they put the first four generations into Ancestry and link them to family search it’s just use more user-friendly and easier to navigate.

5.   I am wondering about Elder Ballard's Instructions on getting the Stake Training/meetings accomplished.  Until this letter came out, many of wondering just what the Stake duties were.

ANSWER:
We have org charts for every auxiliary showing the duties for each person based on the handbook but since it’s a chart it’s easier to understand for some people it’s located in the temple and family history leader folder on our OneDrive that I gave you. Did I give it to you?

I am excited to see the Stake RS Presidency involved.  The sisters get the job done (I have seven daughters).

ANSWER:  Yes relief Society is one of the auxiliaries where the relief Society president, JUST LIKE THE WARD,  has one counselor over missionary work and has another counselor over Temple and Family History are org chart very carefully tells each one is. No, we didn’t say it’s that has to be the first counselor over a Family History and has to be the second counselor over to the family history the handbook just says a counselor so the RS Pres can use her best judgment for that

6.  I am wondering what has happened to this page.  In the past, all the icons shown were posted by each member.  Then, last Fall, the green Temple icons were taken away.  Then they were put back.  Now, it doesn't even seem to be updating.   Link:  https://www.familysearch.org/campaign/patrons
ANSWER:
This was a very interesting episode in family history. It did list the green temples  for everyone, however, it’s possible that this could’ve been a scenario that some very eager temple and family history consultant ran up to someone and said ,”Hey how are you?  You have 12 temple opportunities why aren’t to going to the temple?"  That probably didn't happen like that.  But with the entire ward's info at your fingertips, we wondered if there was a privacy issue there..

The temples were really cute and a great little set of icons to give the bishop an idea as to who’s doing their work and who is it but as he is not allowed to keep quotas or numbers on those type of things and since that is kind of a breach of privacy on the part of someone who’s not the bishop telling another person how many temple ordinances they have I’ll bet they put the Kabash on it

7.  In our Stake (four Wards, three branches), there is ONE Ward Family History Plan complete. I am hoping the "new" links to Stake supervision will help.  And it's not like the FHC Director and the other Assistant and I aren't pushing the issue.
THAT'S OK - MAYBE FAMILIES ARE WORKING MORE IN THEIR HOMES.  WE WANT ACTIVITY OF ANY KIND.  IT IS GOOD FOR YOUR MENTAL OUTLOOK TO KEEP BUSY AND FAMILY HISTORY IS A FUN WAY TO DO IT.

8.   The links on on the PC in your Library.  That would be great to have.
Links to Family History for NASWfamilyhistory.  Please download to your desktop and save it as another name.  If you use our products, you should keep our name on them as we use information from Family Search, the Handbook 2020, and Roots Tech - all years.  You are not required to use any of our materials.  If they help you understand your calling better or help your ability to lead your people, that is all that is important.  Ted and Karen Meyer

9.  Might I have a copy of the Presentation in PowerPoint?
This may not transfer well as a powerpoint,  - over 98 slides, however as a pdf, it is quite portable.

One question was - We should use Stake Temple and Family History Consultants?  I didn't know there were any....

Good catch.  Last year, during some title changes, they said, "There are no more "Lead Consultants".  This was just for the purpose of being able to standardize the titles in order to get the messages out to all Family History People.  There was a problem with clerks, bishops, etc., creating titles and they were fancy ones at that!  "Lead Family History Coordination",  FH Coordinator, etc., and there were lots of people not getting the messages from Salt Lake.  The Stake HC over FH needs a Stake Lead, but for all intents and purposes, he can assign that to anyone, it just won't show up on the titles of the church system or LDS TOOLS ON YOUR PHONE    The Temple and Family History Leader needs the equivalent of a Lead to help him and anyone who was a lead is still vitally important to him.  It's just a title.  You can get a business card from Vista Print and give yourself the title....it's just not going to get you the messages that you will get quickly from Salt Lake with all of us having the title of:

TEMPLE AND FAMILY HISTORY LEADER (A MELCHIZEDEK PRIESTHOOD HOLDER)
TEMPLE AND FAMILY HISTORY CONSULTANT - STAKE
TEMPLE AND FAMILY HISTORY CONSULTANT - WARD
TEMPLE AND FAMILY HISTORY CONSULTANT - BRANCH
MULTI-STAKE TEMPLE AND FAMILY HISTORY CONSULTANTS

WE ARE ALL THE SAME and we serve our people well!
