The important role of the Stake Temple and Family History Consultant

The important role of the Stake Temple and Family History Consultant

All callings have incredible value to their Wards and Stakes, but we've noticed that the Stake TFHC has the most contact with the outside world and we value their kindness and friendliness to their Community.

Did  you know that Genealogy is considered the 2nd most popular hobby in the world?  A lot of people in and out of the church agree with this.  Though....it's difficult to see where the polling came from to substantiate the truth, I choose to believe it.

“ …hobby experts believe that genealogy ranks second only to gardening as American’s favorite pastime.” --
-- ABCNews

According to ABCNews, genealogy is second to gardening in terms of popularity.

USAToday discusses the roots of genealogy’s popularity

This makes the contact points between the Stake Libraries and Consultants and the public crucial.  When calling someone to that calling, YOU are the PEOPLE PERSON that Elder D. Todd Christofferson refers to in this quote about callings.  Of course, he is more general speaking about all family history consultants, but consider the fact that you have the most visibility to non members, you should be on your toes to reach out and befriend new families and friends to help them with this amazing hobby.

“If I were a bishop again, my approach would be to charge the [TEMPLE AND FAMILY HISTORY LEADER] high priests group leader with the responsibility to lead out in the ward council on this subject. I would ensure that we had one or more . . . family history consultants who were ‘people persons’ who could work under his direction. . . . I imagine that in the course of a year we could help at least ten families. In five years, we could have a corps of fifty families active at some level in family history and its attendant temple work. That to me would be a successful, well-run program.”
Elder D. Todd Christofferson

We will discuss this more on our ZOOM meeting this Saturday at 5 pm Arizona Time.  Here is the invitation.  Though we have 9 Stakes, we have a large membership room on Zoom and invite others to come and share what they have done in these COVID19 times to help increase awareness about genealogy and encourage non members to seek out the gospel.  We hope you have been watching our previous 2 zoom meetings about inviting the Missionaries to help you so that by the time someone is interested in baptism, they already have over 100 names to keep them busy for the entire first year of membership right up until they are sealed (if that is their desire) or take our their endowments.

See you Saturday!  This is our meeting ID and Password:

URGENT REQUEST....If I get a message that you edited something, that means you didn't download it to your hard drive, rename it and your edited work may have saved on my OneDrive....please...this is a trust issue.

We need you to use anything that is helpful to you in your calling, just email us and tell us you are trying it out.  Otherwise, we just have a name...and a document that has been changed and we won't be able to share this way....

I have a few names of people who have edited the Relief Society check list "to the temple" which can be saved as any AUX for an excellent checklist, but not easily if someone has already altered formulas or titles.....
