Today we will be discussing the one on one, Spirit led, heart felt, family history experience
after that we will have a Special Guest - Elder Walker - Mission President of Service Missionaries who will be discussing the 1950 census. Here is a description of some of the tasks for those individuals that may be interested in a serving as a Service Missionary in the FamilySearch Community. Those serving in the Community are asked to commit to at 12-15 hours a week. We have a Teams meeting once a week at 10am Utah time on Tuesdays. "Providing oversight of the many research and other public groups in the community.
Missionaries will welcome new members into the Community with personal messages.
Missionaries will be assigned to several groups for the purpose of:
Monitoring the groups for improper actions.
Sending welcome messages to new member of each group
Checking that all questions are responded to within twenty-four hours if feasible.
Reply to vague posts by asking clarifying questions and asking for more details.
Posting messages, memes, etc. as needed in their groups. Participate within each group in ways that help the groups’ members learn how to function as a community."
1950 Census
The 1950 will be released on April 1, 2022, or shortly thereafter. The 1950 census documents the lives of more than 150 million people, giving a snapshot of each household at the time the census was taken. Anyone wanting to understand what life was like in the United States in 1950 will soon be able to glimpse into the past through this registry.
FamilySearch will be downloading images of this important resource within a matter of a few weeks after its release by the US Government. After its release FamilySearch will be asking for volunteers to participate in the indexing of these records. It took six (6) months to complete indexing the 1940 Census, but with so much anticipation associated with the 1950 Census and the efforts of so many volunteers the work should be completed faster. To see a list of the questions included in the Census see https://usa.ipums.org/usa/
Several classes and presentations will be included in RootsTech 2022. To keep up to date on the Census and to be informed of indexing opportunities you can register at familysearch.org/en/info/
