What is something through family history that has helped you grow closer to the Lord?

Just wanted to thank everyone who came to our Zoom last night.  I have added the videos part 1 and part 2 (my computer turned off during the zoom) - but we got back as quickly as we could.  We really appreciated the stories that were shared as to how family history draws you closer to the Lord.

We were especially grateful to the Jex family for sharing the message from the Ukraine 2nd Counselor in the Stake.

Your stories are uplifting and edifying.  We hope by posting them here, that others enjoy them as well.

Excerpts from Ted's story he told by Bishop Kurt Matthews

It's been a Crazy Week!  Sometimes strange things happen while we are filming and speaking with consultants and we get disconnected, disturbed, you name it.  The adversary does not want this work to get done and he does attack our efforts frequently, but we will prevail!  We love this work and finding out about others' family histories is so fascinating to us.  I had been working on the 1950 census deck for indexing which is next month's topic when I started to get tired and knew I had to get to bed early that Monday night but couldn't push myself away from the keyboard.  That's how this next story started...

It's been a rough week.  It started out Monday night getting ready for my 3rd hip replacement (the right one this time!).  We knew that we had to get up Tuesday morning to go to surgery at 4:30 am so we retired relatively early at 10:30.  Of course, I would have an anxiety nightmare and wake up at 1:30 wide awake.  I walked around the kitchen trying to decide if I could sneak a sip of just about anything.  Knowing the answer was an equivocal no(!), I sent myself to my chair without further adieu to distract myself with family history research.

After a few minutes, I heard loud voices outside my front door.  Suddenly there were loud bangings on my front door and someone was fumbling with the lock and handle.  I screamed, "Who is it?"  Nothing just more banging.  I told them to,"Go Away!" - nothing just louder banging.  I told them, "I will call the police!"  More banging.  I thought my loud voice would surely wake Ted but he was out for the count.  I was frozen with fear but finally got the power to make it to our room and wake him.  I tried to fill him in but I am not sure how much of my language was discernable... but the bottom line was, "Bring your gun!".

We went to the front door - he, unlike me, was tall enough to see over the door to the arch-like transom window.  The house across the street is a "coveted by all" very busy AIR BNB home.   He could see that a car was waiting across the street and the person had made his way back to the car.  We watched the rest from our camera room.  We could see and deduce that he was inebriated, (see no shoes, sunglasses still attached - probably been drinking since before sundown).   He walked a lot like me, but I doubt his untamed gait was caused by hip surgery.

Needless to say, only got maybe 2 hours of sleep that night.  The rest of the week was spent trying to get some semblance of independence back under my wing, learning to walk all over again.  Have you ever noticed when you are in the hospital, that they wake you up from a perfectly good sleep to give you........a sleeping pill?   That happened a lot and I kept thinking I would They had told me that I would be released the same day, go home and get a lot of restful sleep, but my body rejected that idea.  They couldn't get it to obey.   The operation was much longer than the normal operation as there was much to repair.   Apparently, my blood pressure would not raise.  It kept hovering under 80/40 the whole week.  Finally Thursday night we got 3 in a row about 110/70 and they let Ted come get me.

Long story shortened a little, I'm back!  I'm recovering and have already started the deck for our April Zoom which will be on "Serving others through the 1950 Census!"  We hope you will join us on April 9th at 5:00 pm - same zoom room, same password -
