FAMILY HISTORY GOALS

FOR THE NEW YEAR

2022

Why do we need goals?  Can we just say we'll get to it?

Good Question!

In ancient Roman religion and myth, Janus is the god of beginnings, gates, transitions, time, doorways, passages, and endings. He is usually depicted as having two faces, since he looks to the FUTURE and PAST at the same time.

Have you ever heard that the best predictor of future behavior is past performance?

This is your chance to change the outcome!

It's a toss-up but some people think it was Mark Twain and others think it was American Psychologist Paul Meehl..  The point is, if your past behavior was to put Family History on the back burner, don't believe that quote -  it's not too late to change!

We all procrastinate but what if we were sitting in a jail cell and someone was outside the cell just dangling the keys just out of our reach?  How would you feel if you knew your family member had the capability to free you from Spirit Prison and didn't.

That would be really sad.

It is a proven true statement that if we write down our goals and aspirations for success during the next year, we become more accountable.  We become more reliable in our efforts because we don't want to let down the process.

Saturday - January 8, 2022, remember this and put it into your phone. You think you are done with your family history, except for the 2nd Saturday of each month at 5:00 PM. Come to our zoom call. Go to zoom.com then log into our meeting using meeting room id:

Ok, so here is a personal plan which will work.

Every week, you can choose to do something towards your family history work

Sunday, look at your Family Search Account.

Make a list of any green entries that you can click on and reserve.

Monday, log in to your Family Search account

go to:  https://www.familysearch.org/campaign/partneraccess

Sign up for free accounts that you can use in your research.

Watch this video:  https://youtu.be/GYRdxkZcA3w

Tuesday - find a picture you like and go to the person's profiile.

Click on Memory and upload it.  Tag any family members so they can enjoy it too!

Wednesday - consider going to a more mature member's home (elderly or someone without a lot of computer training).  Help them log into Family Search.  Help them upload a memory.  Listen to one of their stories while they talk, you type.  Then you upload it to Memories.

Thursday

Teach someone in your family how to use Partner Access

Friday

Next time you are with Grandma or Grandpa, record them doing something they love.

Singing, Dancing videos are great to have.  Once they are gone it's only a memory in the minds of someone who actually witnessed it.

Let us know your success!

Saturday - you are done except for the 2nd Saturday of each month at 5:00 PM.  Come to our zoom call.  Go to zoom.com then log into our meeting using meeting room id:

Today we will be discussing the one on one, Spirit led, heart felt, family history experience

after that we will have a Special Guest - Elder Walker - Mission President of Service Missionaries who will be discussing the 1950 census.  Here is a description of some of the tasks for those individuals that may be interested in a serving as a Service Missionary in the FamilySearch Community.  Those serving in the Community are asked to commit to at 12-15 hours a week.  We have a Teams meeting once a week at 10am Utah time on Tuesdays.  If working on a project like this interests you, please contact Br. Walker at 951 809 6530

"Providing oversight of the many research and other public groups in the community.

    1. Missionaries will welcome new members into the Community with personal messages.

    2. Missionaries will be assigned to several groups for the purpose of:

      1. Monitoring the groups for improper actions.

      2. Sending welcome messages to new member of each group

      3. Checking that all questions are responded to within twenty-four hours if feasible.

      4. Reply to vague posts by asking clarifying questions and asking for more details.

      5. Posting messages, memes, etc. as needed in their groups. Participate within each group in ways that help the groups’ members learn how to function as a community."

1950 Census

The 1950 will be released on April 1, 2022, or shortly thereafter.  The 1950 census documents the lives of more than 150 million people, giving a snapshot of each household at the time the census was taken. Anyone wanting to understand what life was like in the United States in 1950 will soon be able to glimpse into the past through this registry.

FamilySearch will be downloading images of this important resource within a matter of a few weeks after its release by the US Government.  After its release FamilySearch will be asking for volunteers to participate in the indexing of these records.  It took six (6) months to complete indexing the 1940 Census, but with so much anticipation associated with the 1950 Census and the efforts of so many volunteers the work should be completed faster.  To see a list of the questions included in the Census see https://usa.ipums.org/usa/voliii/items1950.shtml

Several classes and presentations will be included in RootsTech 2022.  To keep up to date on the Census and to be informed of indexing opportunities you can register at  familysearch.org/en/info/us-census/1950-census/ to be informed.

ZOOM FOR NOVEMBER 13, 2021 - ON PARTNER ACCESS BRIDGE

What a great zoom we had discussing exactly how you use Partner Access in your research. We have received many emails stating that they knew how to join but then would go directly to the partner to search instead of going through Family Search and creating a proper bridge and accessing through the bridge. Sometimes the difference results in finding 10 or more additional generations! Watch and learn.

Thank you to all who showed up but for some reason could not get on the call. We are looking into what happened. Possibly the link given to our calendar was faulty from zoom.

If you ever have any problems, just go to Https://www.zoom.com and input the meeting ID and password. We pay for a room each month - so it's the same login and password each month. We love your part of our zooms -when you contribute, people learn so much more!

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and we will see you again on December 11, 2021 for our last Zoom of the year.

Here's a thought...maybe you learned Partner Access the wrong way???

Partner Access

 - were you trained or did you just fumble through the sign up and give it a try?

Let's fix that!  Next Saturday at 5 pm MST we will have a blog and open forum on how to use it the correct way and how to increase your results and decrease your research time.

We want you to learn how to do it the correct way!   Then we want to hear what amazing thing you found.  Last, we want to know how many people you showed how to do it.  That's all - 3 things.

We know you are busy - !

If you can't come to our Zoom Meeting - see invite below! - Watch this little 12 minute video to get an idea how to do it right.  But later, tune back in here so that you can watch the recorded Zoom after November 13, 2021 which will be uploaded that evening.  The best part of our Zoom meetings is you!  Your experiences in learning and teaching make our calling so joyful - you are doing a great thing by teaching others how not to do genealogy.  We will show you the RIGHT way!

https://youtu.be/P24HjMd4ae4

There is an ugly rumor going around that it is for:

    1.  old people

    2.  People who have no life

    3.  Overworked moms who need a way to give themselves a break...

   4.  Dad's who think they need an outlet and space.

Well we are here to tell you that is baloney!

Get to know your ancestors - it's more fun that way.  Learn about the cities they lived in and google the city and year for a surprise.  Google "styles, clothes and the year" to see what they were wearing.  You can really have fun with this work.

Then, when you go to the temple, they are more than just a name.   A GA we met said,  "The Prophet wants us to get to know our ancestors and learn more about their lives, their existence, and what trials they overcame.  When we meet them the kinship will be a stronger bond and they will be grateful that you took the time to get to know them."

Camelback Stake Family History Fair

This is happening!

  May 21, 2022 from 10-1pm

Join us at the Camelback Stake Family History Fair!

Ted and I are hosting another Stake Family History Fair.  The pics say it all.   and Pencils from Oriental trading which said, "CAMELBACK STAKE FAMILY HISTORY TREE-AGE TEAM".  Each booth had a laminated sheet that told the patron where to go next after receiving the knowledge to be imparted at the booth.  The main goal was to help as many people find their families as  possible

There were several opportunities

7 - After Ancestry, if they didn't have Partner Access, they were guided to #5

9- After getting their tree Analyzed, if they didn't have any of the other partners, they were sent to #5

12 - After viewing the My Heritage demonstration of colorization of black and white pictures, if they didn't have an account, Partner access took care of it.

The missionaries are always a great help to  Fran unload all of her scrapbooking albums.

booth 1 - Our Greeter handed out a sheet which in column 1, said  "this is my problem," Column 2 says, this is where you go to fix it...column 3 shows what the sign looks like - then the adventure begins - they go into the cultural hall and look for the picture that matches what they need.

Booth 2 - Kids Korner

Here’s the sign. Parents could let their kids color Family History coloring pages (crayons were bought in bulk from Oriental Trading) play Family History board games like "Return to Heaven" and "20 Ways to gather Israel". We also got some blank puzzles (5 x 7) from amazon that they could draw their family on, then break up the puzzle and put it into a ziplock bag to take home.   If you would like the directions for creating one of these games, send us an email with the request - naswfamilyhistory@gmail.com

We used

Booth 3. Member number

Booth 4  member login. - forgot logins and passwords to FS, Any partners

We found little leather-bound notebooks at KoleImports for .29 each   Got about 52  split between booth 4 and partner access #5

29 Cents from Koleimports.com
#5 partner Access - Our goal was to sign as many people up for Partner access

Booth #6  find green temples, assist the patron in reserving then print at printer booth #6

We used a personal printer a Canon 110ip printer which we take with us on presentations.

Booth#7

Do you have Ancestry?  Have you taken The Ancestry DNA test? Do you know how to enable thrulines to see if your research matches your DNA?   We were able to show them how sometimes people were just born in a certain area and assumed citizenship automatically.  So if your heritage was actually Japanese and your parents were stationed in Ireland with the MIlitary or Job, you would be called Irish, but in reality, you are really Japanese.   We were able to Analyze and make suggestions for opportunities for success.

.

Booth 8  teach how to upload a memory, picture or document

Booth 9   Have your family search tree analyzed to see if it’s full enough to create a seventh-generation Fan chart

Booth 10  teach how to find and add records to flip a name ordinance to a green temple, request and print

Booth 11  all of your work is done? Go here and have your tree analysis to find cousins using Puzzilla.

Booth 12    Learn about how to colorize old black and white photos, then breathe life into them by letting the program animate the enhanced one.    If people are interested in learning more about gaining access to my heritage send them to partner access.

Converted from this....
