Camelback Stake Family History Fair

This is happening!

  May 21, 2022 from 10-1pm

Join us at the Camelback Stake Family History Fair!

Ted and I are hosting another Stake Family History Fair.  The pics say it all.   and Pencils from Oriental trading which said, "CAMELBACK STAKE FAMILY HISTORY TREE-AGE TEAM".  Each booth had a laminated sheet that told the patron where to go next after receiving the knowledge to be imparted at the booth.  The main goal was to help as many people find their families as  possible

There were several opportunities

7 - After Ancestry, if they didn't have Partner Access, they were guided to #5

9- After getting their tree Analyzed, if they didn't have any of the other partners, they were sent to #5

12 - After viewing the My Heritage demonstration of colorization of black and white pictures, if they didn't have an account, Partner access took care of it.

The missionaries are always a great help to  Fran unload all of her scrapbooking albums.

booth 1 - Our Greeter handed out a sheet which in column 1, said  "this is my problem," Column 2 says, this is where you go to fix it...column 3 shows what the sign looks like - then the adventure begins - they go into the cultural hall and look for the picture that matches what they need.

Booth 2 - Kids Korner

Here’s the sign. Parents could let their kids color Family History coloring pages (crayons were bought in bulk from Oriental Trading) play Family History board games like "Return to Heaven" and "20 Ways to gather Israel". We also got some blank puzzles (5 x 7) from amazon that they could draw their family on, then break up the puzzle and put it into a ziplock bag to take home.   If you would like the directions for creating one of these games, send us an email with the request - naswfamilyhistory@gmail.com

We used

Booth 3. Member number

Booth 4  member login. - forgot logins and passwords to FS, Any partners

We found little leather-bound notebooks at KoleImports for .29 each   Got about 52  split between booth 4 and partner access #5

29 Cents from Koleimports.com
#5 partner Access - Our goal was to sign as many people up for Partner access

Booth #6  find green temples, assist the patron in reserving then print at printer booth #6

We used a personal printer a Canon 110ip printer which we take with us on presentations.

Booth#7

Do you have Ancestry?  Have you taken The Ancestry DNA test? Do you know how to enable thrulines to see if your research matches your DNA?   We were able to show them how sometimes people were just born in a certain area and assumed citizenship automatically.  So if your heritage was actually Japanese and your parents were stationed in Ireland with the MIlitary or Job, you would be called Irish, but in reality, you are really Japanese.   We were able to Analyze and make suggestions for opportunities for success.

.

Booth 8  teach how to upload a memory, picture or document

Booth 9   Have your family search tree analyzed to see if it’s full enough to create a seventh-generation Fan chart

Booth 10  teach how to find and add records to flip a name ordinance to a green temple, request and print

Booth 11  all of your work is done? Go here and have your tree analysis to find cousins using Puzzilla.

Booth 12    Learn about how to colorize old black and white photos, then breathe life into them by letting the program animate the enhanced one.    If people are interested in learning more about gaining access to my heritage send them to partner access.

Converted from this....

SAVE THIS TICKET TO YOUR PHONE!

Booth 13 -Scrapbooking

By the way - all of our signs were created using CRICUT - You can see the recipes for the 12 x 12 signs if you search my projects:  FHC - each one is listed in their database.

Booth 14 - Hispanic research help

Booth 15 - French and Italian research help

Booth 16- German research help

Booth 17 - Grandma’s cookies

Booth 17 GRANDMA'S COOKIES

Zoom information for OCTOBER 16, 2021 - COMPLIANCE OF FAMILY HISTORY CENTERS

Thank you so much for your interest in making sure your FHC is compliant so that it can always get the information straight from Salt Lake. We learned a lot about what has to occur and how often the machines get updated on their OS system, etc., Here is the RECORDING from that presentation

You may go to the blog to re-watch the video.
If you have any problems accessing it, I can send you a personal link to your email.

For the section for your Mission President that discusses Missionaries specifically, skip to page
30 in our ppt.

Family History Center helpdesk is 1 801 406 1830

I'm attaching our Stake Handbook for our FHC - maybe you can use some of the things in it.  Let us know if it helped you.

I changed ours to make it generic so add your information.
Copy and paste the Stake Family History Director to a Word of Excel sheet and add all the family history people from all the wards.  this will be in your LDS tools on your phone.

Add your Stake FHC information from cdol.churchofjesuschrist.org using your login and password.

This lady will help you update your Wiki on the internet.  You can list classes for Consultants on there and any Activities you have created can go on there too.

We use signupgenius and send a message to the Temple and Family History Leaders along with the quote from the handbook that they are supposed to send consultants to work at least once a month with a Stake consultant, shadowing his/her duties and learning advanced genealogy and workshop types of info.  You can read more about that in the "job description for Consultants and Stake Consultants".

Our Next zoom will be:  November 13 at 5pm Arizona time - MST daylight savings time ends this year at November 7
really....I'm not messing it up next month!!!

Here are some important numbers for you:

Here is the link for the Family History Center guide.  It's not "obsolete" but it is very outdated.  You can use our unofficial addition to this to help you until a substitute is issued.

Directors may want to print out the powerpoint that we can send you so that they have pages for their own Stake binders

Two power weeks - Here's #1

Many people don’t realize that there are certain things that must be updated on a regular basis in order to operate a successful Family History Center.
  • Do you know if your computer licenses are up to date?
  • Do you know which computers do not belong to the Salt Lake City office, and
  • how to dispose of them when they cannot be updated from Windows 7 to Windows 10?
  • If you can’t update, they will cease being able to print to the printers in your center which are registered with the SLC office.

  • There are a lot of things which must be attended to in order to proceed. We have partnered with Family Search to share their technological directions plus there are some other things we have added which would be helpful to any Stake person who is in charge on a night when the power goes out, for example. So we will show you how to
  • safely reboot the server,
  • how to get back online with the portal and
  • many other things.

  • Until SLC comes out with a training manual other than the outdated one which is from 2015, we have a Stake FHC Manual which will help you train any of your Stake Consultants. So, let's talk next Saturday at 5:00 pm (MST Mountain Standard time, or Arizona Time)

Ted and Karen Meyer are inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.

Here's Week #2

We also would like you to come - if you are one of our local stakes - to our Camelback Stake Family History Fair on Saturday 23, 2021 from 10 am to 1 pm. We have a great "cookie cutter" method of putting one of these on with all the steps - all you have to do is change the name, get some bodies for the booths and make it pretty. Three hours for the most important missionary activity of the year. Three hours of pure service to your community and the Ward Consultants, Temple and Family History Leaders and Elders Quorum Counselors assist in making the endeavor a success.

Here's a link you can send your Family History People - Please invite them to come so they can see how fun and easy it is.

Family History Centers - are you up to date?

DO YOU KNOW WHAT IS NEEDED TO RUN A FHC SUCCESSFULLY?

Recently, in preparation for opening up our Family History Center after the long COVID break, we were made aware of a great many shortcomings which needed to be fixed.

Did you know or were you previously aware that:

1.  The computers in your Family History Center do not belong to your Stake?

2.  They are maintained by your Stake Staff, yet must comply with specific technicalities, from permissions to admin logins and passwords.

3.  You are not supposed to change any of the settings to make it more comfortable for you to come to the center.  All the settings are mandated by the Director's directions from SLC.

4.  Why can't you store your pictures and family history files on the Library computer.  That is why God made USB files or thumb drives.  You can take your files anywhere you want to go!  But please do not save them on the desktops at the center.

5.  We know that sometimes you forget your login and password and need to use your email on the desktop - that is fine - please do not store your password there for the next time you forget.  It is helpful to carry a notebook with you when you come.  So many times, hours are lost of precious time between the Stake Consultant and the visitor because they don't have logins and passwords they need.

6.  What logins and passwords do you need?

    1.  Family Search

I am not including the links to these (2-7) because if you saw our presentation on Partner Access, you know that you should sign up from these from the member access page.  To learn more about Partner Access and how you can shorten your research time and increase your success go here:  https://naswfamilyhistory.blogspot.com/2021/08/what-delightful-and-informative-zoom-we.html

    2.  Ancestry

    3.  My Heritage

    4.  Geneanet

    5.  American Ancestor

    6.  Find my Past

    7.  Filea

    8.  Thefhguide.com

ZOOM FOR SEPTEMBER 2021 - REDUCING YOUR RESEARCH TIME AND INCREASING YOUR SUCCESS RATE AS A CONSULTANT

 The Gift!

Consultants have been given a precious gift of discernment and when used with the Spirit, prayerfully working with someone on their family tree, they are given many blessings.

Our zoom today will help your consultants so much because it will give them the knowledge to successfully navigate through a one on one with a patron and increase their self-esteem.  It will give them several quick key tips to help a patron get more opportunities for Ordinances.  There is great value in convincing them that they do not have to be an expert on the first day they are called as a consultant.

Hope you enjoy it.  We sure enjoy all of you who come to our Zoom meetings.   It is very rewarding to help you and we enjoy learning from your expertise as well.  This past zoom we welcomed people from Australia, UK, New Zealand, Haiti, Canada, many USA states, and of course, Arizona!

See you next month - the subject has been finalized and we will be showing a Stake Handbook on Policies and Procedures as well as ideas for Stakes to pull the wards together.  October 16, 2021 at 5 pm AZ time.  Mark your calendar !

TODAY - YOU WILL KNOW Everything there is to know about "Partner Access!"

When Partner Access was first released to the membership of the church in 2019 - people did not realize what they had been given.

This is quite a gift to receive access to 7-8 other websites that usually charge upwards of 900 per year combined to access their records....from your home....are you getting the picture?

Do you want to know how to use them effectively?  Do you want to learn how to lessen the time spent in countless hours of researching in circles and get right to the data?  If so, we will teach you an easy bridge technique so that 1) the partner will not charge you as a member of the church and 2) learning this technique will increase your accuracy in achieving your goals, and 3) It will make that endless circle of "I've seen this record before..." go away.

PLUS - SPECIAL GUEST SPEAKER WILL BE

Kathryn Grant,
BYU Family History Library
